You go to the pet shop and you fall madly in love with that big wrinkly face and the next thing you know, you’re the proud owner of a new Pug puppy. Something that you need to know, particularly in those early days, is that the moment you bring that young dog home, you are training them in the right way to act in the future. With pug training, it is critical to be trained from the very start of your days as a Pug owner.
When you look at how much a kid learns in the initial few years of their life, it far outweighs the quantity of things they learn in the latter years. A pug puppy is the same way, the first few months of their life are just like the initial few years of a child’s life and anything they learn now is going to be embedded in their mind as something they are able to do.
If your Pug puppy jumps up on the coach, will you discipline him and tell him to get down or are you going to pet his cute small head and tell him how lovable he is. Now think about what occurs when he’s a full grown dog and he does that, you are probably going to be upset and scream at him. Well don’t scream at the dog, go find a mirror and scream at yourself because you are the one that promoted that behavior when he was a puppy dog.
We often find humor in the things that both children and dogs do when they’re puppies and babies and then we receive upset when they are doing the same stuff 1 or 2 years later. It isn’t their fault, you allowed this behavior and now you are going to deal with it. Knowing when to fix behavior is a big part of pug training
When your Pug puppy grabs your shoes and starts gnawing on them, ask one small query, am I going to find that funny in 7 years when he’s still doing it? If you’re like most people, the solution to that query is going to be a sound NO so address it now and you will not have to stress about it in the future as the dog will know it’s not allowable.
It is a little tricky to coach your Pug young dog from the first day, but you have got to resist the trap of falling for that adorable face. They are animals and they need to be trained. The will only do what you permit them to do or get away with so make sure you get the proper behavior instilled from day one and you’ll have a great pet!
