Dog boarding kennels vary considerably in what they offer and what they charge. Take a few minutes to run through some of your preconceptions about the type of care you think your dog should receive before you check out the kennels. Does your dog need human contact and, or, to play with other animals? Some breeds and some individual animals can be aggressive in certain situations. Do you want your animals playing with other dogs? Or is your dog a quiet one who by nature or age wishes to be left alone to sleep most of the day?
Do you expect your dog to be able to have their own kennel and if so are you willing to pay extra for this service? How much room do you expect them to have? Do you want them to have access to the outside all or most of the day or is a couple of hours a day sufficient for your pet? Many places only allow dogs out of their small spaces for an hour twice a day and you need to know this in advance.
If your dog is a small one do you want them to be kept separately from the big dogs? Alternatively a small-dog boarding kennels might be better as they can provide that specialised care that the little ones need.
You will want to choose dog boarding kennels which will provide your precious pet with the food he or she is used to. It is quite distressing to arrive back after a trip away to find that your dog has lost a lot of weight and has bones sticking out because he is unhappy with the food that was offered. So check out that your dog is going to be able to eat to its satisfaction.
