Border Collie Training: Tips On How To Stop Excessive Barking

Border collie training is one of the things current or potential border collie owners should not ignore. Border collies are known to be intelligent dogs but leaving them untrained could make them hard to control hence may probably result in various trouble to themselves or anyone around them.

Having such impressive herding instinct, border collies are expected to bark, nip and grip. Nevertheless, barking may become more of a predicament if it goes past what’s normal or what’s more acceptable based on human perspective.

It’s difficult to find solution to a specific problem not knowing where it came from or what are the reasons for its occurrence. So to determine what makes your beloved pet bark over and over, try to find out what prompted the behavior. A border collie may bark if:

  • he does not get ample exercise
  • lacks mental stimulation
  • bored and doesn’t have enough toys to play
  • he sees the need to herd be it other animals or your kids
  • he is all alone and away from his human
  • he is aware of|detects an imminent danger

If he barks due to lack of exercise or mental stimulation, the most effective way to deal with the issue is to provide more activities. Walk your pet at least once a day and train him to fetch a ball or play Frisbee. Dog training activities including teaching basic obedience along with other tricks will likely provide him the mental challenge he needs.

Having been bred to herd, you may see your household pet barking at what he deems as “sheep” every once in awhile. It is therefore recommended to teach other family members specially children on how to respond when the situation necessitates. If barking is caused by boredom and loneliness, moving his crate or bed in an area where the family frequently stays and providing him with unique and interactive dog toys can help solve the problem.
