Apple’s iPhone has been very proud to publicise the fact that it has an ‘app’ for everything. Now, luckily for our furry friends, it seems there’s even an app for pet health care. This is great news for pet owners who use their mobile phones more than computers to obtain information as the many pet health care apps offer a range of information, close to hand.
The thinking behind these applications is very much the need to offer quick and concise information to pet keepers. One app is called the Pet First Aid App and is a very handy collection of quick and simple pieces of pet health care advice for several animals. The app also offers advice on how to perform physical checks on your pet to help you figure out what the problem might be. A very useful ‘what’s normal’ section lets owners look up symptoms or behaviour to see whether they should be a cause for concern.
An app which works in a similar fashion to the first aid application is the mobile symptom checker. Working in a similar way to its human counterpart, the NHS direct website, users can search any symptoms their pet is showing by category.
The Vet Records app helps pet owners to keep themselves updated on their animal’s pet health care records. The app allows users to input medical records to keep track of treatment. Obviously, the vet should keep a record of this information anyway, but the app could be especially useful if the animal has to receive emergency treatment from a vet other than their own, such as if they feel ill on holiday.
Pet health care fans will really love the Pet Services finder app. It is a cross between Google and the Yellow Pages and allows pet owners to find any animal service from vets to dog walkers to catteries in the local area.
Other popular pet and pet health care related apps include an Off the Leash app which gives dog owners suggestions of interesting walks which are pet friendly and a Veterinary Dictionary which helps to clear up some of the confusing terms vets use.
Overall, it is fair to say that technology really is making a huge difference to pet health care by making it more simple and more accessible to all.
