A dog breed noted for its monkey-like face originates from Germany in the 17th century. This little terrier type dogs was in fact dubbed as Monkey Dog. In France, breed enthusiasts lovingly call the dog Diablotin Moustachu which means mustached little devil. This dog was primarily developed to be a rodent catcher. During the early years of the breed’s existence, these dogs are commonly seen in barns, in stables, granaries and in kitchens keeping these places free of rodents.
A high level of intelligence, an affectionate nature and the renowned clownish personality are the admirable qualities of an Affenpinscher. If your choice for a pet is a dog that will provide the family with comic relief, then the Affenpinscher is the dog for you. This breed is really amusing as it has this attitude of showing off to get people’s attention every chance it could get. Would it be any wonder if the lowly rat catcher that curls up in barns would become highly valued pets that use the owners lap as a place to rest. An Affenpinscher however, is a sly dog. The sly dog has what it takes to wrap the owners around its little fingers. The dog is so small but it knows how to use it wiles to make the whole family give in to its demands. An Affenpinscher certainly makes a wonderful and ideal family companion but owners have to be aware of the dog’s domineering personality. It would never be wise to spoil this pet as the dog can become a small tyrant. This spoiled pet can sulk all day if things would not go according to its wishes. The feisty dog will not tolerate teasing especially from unfamiliar faces. The tough personality that earned this dog the “mustached little devil” name can be corrected with consistent firm training and lots of loving care.
An Affenpinscher belongs to the toy dog breed . The size makes this dog an ideal choice for an apartment dweller. Potential owner though has to realize that not like other toy breeds, an Affenpinscher has considerable exercise requirements. The dog should be given an opportunity to exercise daily. Remember, an Affenpinscher is a hyperactive breed. Because of the size and the affectionate nature, pet owners love to cuddle the pet. This breed though has to be allowed to expend its energies lest inactivity turn this dog into an obnoxious pet. With the right training and care, the Affenpinscher will be a pet any owner would love to have.
