Welsh ponies were bred in the United Kingdom, specifically Wales. There are several different variations of the Welsh Pony, and they are popular for a number of reasons, for everything from horse riding and shows to pit pony and work horse.

These ponies were historically used mainly as work horses. The British government used these ponies at wartime to carry heavy guns and equipment to areas inaccessible by vehicles, and even these ponies were used for a mounted infantry.

The Welsh Pony was also implemented for farm use among civilians, they were used for work in coal mines, and the postal service even utilized them on postal routes. Traditionally, everyday tasks were considered to be better handled by the Welsh pony.

As time went on, the Welsh pony was noticed for its extraordinary ability during competitions and other shows, and its gentleness when handled and mounted by small children.

A solid color with no spots is a trait of the Welsh ponies. The most common varieties include black, bay and chestnut.

These ponies a well loved because they are gentle, sweet, loyal, and have a strong spirit, making their endurance great. A strong stamina is a characteristic of the Welsh pony that makes it outlast other horses much larger and those that seem much stronger. The Welsh pony is quick to train and quick to learn. Due to this fact, the Welsh pony would be a great selection for the person learning how to train horses.

Bold, beautiful, and free, these Welsh ponies are unique breed that can outlast nearly any other horse, carry a child with utmost gentleness, but still run as fast and jump as high as any other breed. They handle harsh climates well and seem to even enjoy the cold.
